A 28-year-old man was remanded in custody for eight days on Tuesday after having been arrested the previous day when police found him to be in possession of more than 80 kilograms of cannabis.
The man was staying in a hotel in Limassol, and was driving a rental vehicle through the city which the police pulled over for a routine stop.
The police found a small amount of drugs in the car, and then searched the man’s hotel room, finding a total of 20 kilograms of cannabis inside.
The man then told police about an apartment he was using, and a subsequent police search of the apartment found around 60 kilograms of cannabis and a total of €18,900 in cash inside.
Police determined that the man had only arrived in Cyprus 10 days ago, and the man reportedly told them that he was acting on behalf of another person and was awaiting instructions.
The police’s investigation into the matter is ongoing, with the man’s mobile phone to be searched with the aim of finding out with whom he was in contact before and during the 10 days he had spent in Cyprus before being arrested.
