Space Invaders will soon be playable on this funky retro smartwatch
All things retro are making a comeback, with a Kickstarter launched to bring a first-of-its-kind Space Invaders watch to the market.
The California-based company F84 has collaborated with TAITO, the creators of Space Invaders, to bring the game into the new era of wearable technology.
The companies had a goal of fundraising $20,000 to bring the watch into reality, but this has quickly been reached with the figure now sitting at $34,456 as of September 27, 2024.
So far, 355 people have backed the Kickstarter and there are still 28 days to go until it concludes.
“Step into the future of retro gaming with the SPACE INVADERS: My Play Watch, a timepiece that blends nostalgia with cutting-edge technology.
“This high-quality touchscreen watch offers core functionality like time and fitness tracking, with a built-in SPACE INVADERS game that brings the arcade classic to your wrist,” F84 writes.
The features include a high-quality 1.86” touchscreen display with a time display, fitness tracking, and a built-in Space Invaders game tailored specifically for the watch display.
To begin playing, there’s no need to download apps or pair with other devices as the play watch will work straight out of the box. It has also been engineered for a long battery life.

While the watch has many functional features that are useful for every day, the co-founder says they’re not trying to compete with your phone-linked smartwatch.
