'Red flag at the Trump campaign' in key swing states: pollster

Pollster Quinnipiac has released a new set of polls taken in the key Rust Belt swing states of Pennsylvania, Michigan, and Wisconsin, and they contain some bad news for the former president.

According to Quinnipiac, Harris holds a six-point lead over Trump in Pennsylvania, a five-point led over Trump in Michigan, and a statistically insignificant one-point lead in Wisconsin.

Beyond the topline numbers, however, Quinnipiac University polling analyst Tim Malloy says that what should really trouble the Trump campaign is how much she has all but erased the former president's advantage on whom voters believe would do a better job of handling the economy.

"Three crucial swing states wave a red flag at the Trump campaign," Malloy said. "The GOP's most 'go to' attack strategies against Democrats on immigration and the economy may be losing momentum. Likely voters now see little daylight, in most cases, between Harris and Trump on who can best handle those key issues."

The New Republic's Greg Sargent had a similar takeaway and said the most important finding of the poll is that "Harris is close to fighting the economy and immigration to a draw" in top battleground states.

This trend was also picked up by Jewish Insider editor-in-chief Josh Kraushaar.

"Post-debate, Trump advantage over Harris on the economy and immigration has dissipated to low single digits in new Quinnipiac swing state polls of MI/PA/WI," he observed. "Trump declining edge on immigration comes after his campaign’s false claims re: Springfield, Ohio."

Nick Field, a contributor at Decision Desk HQ, said that the immigration numbers for Harris were so strong that the poll could very well be an outlier.

"These immigration numbers show this batch of Quinnipiac polls is one of the strongest for Harris in awhile, I'd imagine the Trump campaign will argue that proves it's wrong," he argued.
