Educor’s Damelin, City Varsity, Icesa City Campus and Lyceum College re-registered
Four colleges owned by Educor Holdings; Damelin, City Varsity, Icesa City Campus and Lyceum College have been re-registered.
This comes after they were de-registered earlier this year after the holding company failed to comply with various requirements stipulated by the Department of Higher Education, including the failure to submit their annual financial statements and the tax clearance certificates for the 2021 and 2022 years, as proof of their financial viability.
This week, the department's director-general Nkosinathi Sishi said a decision was taken to re-register the institutions on humanitarian grounds.
"After consideration on humanitarian grounds by the minister of the consequences of the closure of the institutions, the minister took a decision that on humanitarian grounds the institution be re-registered," Sishi said in an interview with Jacaranda FM.
He further explained that timeframes have been put in place for Educor to comply with.
Last month, the department said Educor must fully comply with the Council on Higher Education (CHE) accreditation requirements before commencing any teaching and learning activities.
Furthermore, Educor required to submit comprehensive monthly reports to the department and the minister reserved the right to revoke the provisional reinstatement if the holding company failed to adhere to the stipulated conditions or if any further non-compliance is detected.
