RILEY COUNTY (KSNT) - The Riley County Elections Division (RCED) is seeking extra election workers to cover the General Election in November.
On Tuesday, Sept. 17 the RCED issued a press release saying it hopes to hire 20 to 25 more election workers for the General Election on Nov. 5.
"For the 2020 Presidential Election, almost 65% of registered voters participated with a total of 25,073 ballots cast," said Rich Vargo, Riley County Clerk. "We’re expecting, and hoping for, even more voters this year, so we want to ensure plenty of staff are on hand to help."
According to the RCED, the shift is usually 15 hours on the day of the General Election. Election workers will need to complete some training sessions ahead of the big day. Workers will be responsible for staffing polling stations, checking voter IDs, escorting voters to machines and closing the polling place.
“I like to say that everyone should work elections at least once so they can understand the integrity of the system," said Sara Fisher, Riley County Election Day Worker. "What has impressed me the most during my time as an election worker is the security, training, and integrity of our local election system. Election days sometimes feel long, but they are great opportunities to make friends and interact with not-yet-friends. I look forward to working many more elections!”
