The Patriots proved many of their doubters wrong in Week 1, but New England didn't carry the momentum through this past weekend.
After an impressive road win over the Cincinnati Bengals to kick off their 2024 campaign, the Patriots dropped their home opener against the Seahawks on Sunday. New England was in a great position to beat Seattle in the fourth quarter at Gillette Stadium, but the visitors made a few more plays than Jerod Mayo's group and swiped a 23-20 overtime win.
The narrow loss to Geno Smith and company prevented the Patriots from significantly falling on ESPN's latest NFL power ranking. New England, which jumped up to No. 24 following its upset at Paycor Stadium, only dropped one spot heading into Week 3.
The Patriots have a good opportunity to move back up on the ranking this week, even with their latest dose of bad injury luck. New England on Thursday night will visit the New York Jets, who looked terrible in Week 1 and barely scraped out a victory over a mediocre Tennessee Titans team Sunday. Oddsmakers, however, tabbed Gang Green as a significant 6.5-point favorite as of Tuesday morning.
The AFC East rivals will kick off their primetime clash at MetLife Stadium at 8:15 p.m. ET.
