KANSAS CITY, Mo. — A familiar face could be making a return to Kansas City after Chiefs running back Isiah Pacheco fractured his fibula.
Kareem Hunt will visit the Chiefs on Tuesday, according to reports. Hunt was drafted by the Chiefs in 2017 and spent the better part of two seasons with the team before he was released after a videotape surfaced of him pushing a woman to the ground and kicking her.
The woman allegedly called Hunt a racial slur. Authorities did not press criminal charges. Chiefs owner Clark Hunt said he released Kareem Hunt because he was not truthful when the Chiefs asked him what happened during the incident.
Hunt was very productive during his time in Kansas City, leading the league in rushing and garnering a Pro Bowl selection in his rookie season.
Before being released in 2018, Hunt was having another Pro Bowl caliber season with 824 yards on 141 carries and 14 total touchdowns in 11 games.
With Pacheco officially put on IR, the Chiefs running back room has been put in a precarious position.
Currently, the Chiefs are without the top two running backs on their depth chart with Clyde Edwards-Helaire NFL's Reserve/Non-football illness list.
That leaves the Chiefs with rookie fullback Carson Steele and third string running back Samaje Perine.
On Monday, Andy Reid said General Manager Brett Veach was looking for people and he will see where it goes.
The Chiefs also waived tight end Peyton Hendorshot, which could mean the Chiefs are freeing up a spot for Hunt or another running back to join the roster.
Hunt would make a lot of sense considering his familiarity within the offense and his ability to get into the endzone. He finished last season with 411 yards on 135 carries with nine touchdowns in 15 games for the Cleveland Browns, whom he's spent the last five seasons with.
Pacheco will undergo surgery this week is expected to miss 6-8 weeks. Next up for the Chiefs is a matchup on the road against the Atlanta Falcons on Sunday Night Football.
