Body found in search for woman, 44, missing since June
A body has been found in the search for a woman missing from Barnsley since June.
It’s been nearly three months since Claire Driver, 44, was last seen at the Silkstone Lane and Bull Haw Lane junction, in Silkstone, South Yorkshire, on June 24.
Woods, church grounds and historic memorials she was known to visit became a focus for search efforts as friends grew increasingly concerned for her welfare.
This morning, police found a body they believe is Claire in the Silkstone area of Barnsely.
Formal identification is yet to take place.
In a statement shared on X this afternoon, police said: ‘Her family has been informed. Thank you to everyone who shared our appeals.’
Missing posters had been erected and search dogs had been deployed in an effort to find Claire.
In the days before she disappeared, eye witnesses and CCTV had seen her in Barnsley and the nearby area of Stainborough.
She was also spotted along the High Street in the village of Silkstone the previous day.
In July, Chief Inspector John Mallows said: ‘I am moved by the support from Claire’s community as we continue our search for her.
‘Our appeals have been shared thousands of times on social media, with many people also commenting words of support.
‘We have also received lots of information from members of the public to report suspected sightings, and other information.’
By August, however, police admitted they had run out of leads.
