MANILA, Philippines – Cardiologist and online health personality Dr. Willie Ong, also known as Doc Willie, revealed on Saturday, September 14, that is he battling abdominal cancer.
“It’s serious, but I will fight this battle. For all cancer patients in the Philippines, we will all get better together,” Ong said in a Facebook video.
Ong said that his tumor is “very large.”
“One of the biggest they have seen,” he added. He has ben experiencing “shortness of breath, fatigue, and difficulty in swallowing” since April 2023.
In October 2023, Ong said that he started to experience back pain. “Worst pain of my life. Ten out of ten. You will cry. I was just weeping in pain all night. Like a knife stabbing you in the back,” he said.
Ong gained fame through his social media videos where he offered medical advice to Filipinos. He was a senatorial candidate in the 2019 elections and ran for vice president in the 2022 elections as the running mate of former Manila Mayor Isko Moreno – Rappler.com
