Is Lions WR Jameson Williams in for another big week against the Buccaneers?
The Detroit Lions finally got a glimpse of wide receiver Jameson Williams’ potential in Week 1. However, Williams has been listed as questionable heading into Sunday’s Week 2 game against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
Jameson Williams Injury Status
Williams was limited in practice all week with an ankle injury, leaving his status somewhat uncertain in Week 2. However, Williams should be on track to play against the Buccaneers. It’s always nice to see a full practice, but teams tend to play it safer earlier in the season. After an impressive performance against the Los Angeles Rams, Williams will be hoping to build on that if he’s healthy enough to play.
What Jameson Williams injury means for fantasy football
The Lions wide receiver is one of the more exciting players heading into Week 2 against the Buccaneers. The former first round pick has been waiting to break out in the Lions offense and looks to be on the path to doing so after a strong performance in Week 1. Williams finished with five receptions for 121 yards and a touchdown in Week 1.
Williams has been one of the more electric wide receivers, but hasn’t consistently been able to put together strong performances. His 24.4 points against the Rams set a career high. While the Buccaneers held the Washington Commanders receivers in check last week, the Lions playmakers will provide a much tougher challenge. Williams had two receptions for 35 yards in last year’s playoff game.
If Williams plays, he remains a must-start as a flex play given his huge upside. There are few players at that spot that are capable of putting together the type of game that Williams can. Williams is a player that can win weeks. The Lions cleared the depth chart for Williams in the offseason, hoping he would take the next step. He proved the front office right as he had nine targets and a 32 percent target share last week. We have yet to see if that is sustainable or just a one week thing, but for now, Williams is a must-play when healthy.
It’s likely that the Lions are being cautious. With that said, Williams being limited in practice all week could mean Amon-Ra St. Brown is more involved in the offense this week. If Williams doesn't see a 32 percent target share, other players like Sam LaPorta or Jahmyr Gibbs could also get more involved.
