Former PM Khan: Terrorism can’t be eliminated without dialogue with Afghanistan
Former Pakistani Prime Minister Imran Khan stated on Friday that terrorism cannot be eradicated without dialogue with the authorities in Afghanistan.
Khan voiced his support for Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur’s proposal for direct talks with Kabul, calling it a step in the right direction.
“Ali Amin is absolutely right,” Khan said, stressing the need to engage Afghanistan for the sake of peace and stability in Pakistan, particularly in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
Pakistan’s Defense Minister Khawaja Muhammad Asif had earlier criticized Gandapur’s plan, calling it an attack on the federal government, questioning the province’s engagement with another country.
Khan responded by emphasizing that Khyber Pakhtunkhwa has suffered the most from terrorism, and the Foreign Office should not obstruct efforts aimed at peace in the region.
He also highlighted the heavy loss of life among Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s police forces in the fight against terrorism, urging the government to support any initiative that seeks to curb militant violence.
The escalation of militant attacks in Pakistan, particularly in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, has worsened the security situation and severely impacted the local economy. As violence continues, the need for effective strategies, including dialogue with neighboring Afghanistan, becomes critical.
Cooperation between provincial and federal authorities is essential to tackle the growing threat of militancy. Without joint efforts, the challenges posed by escalating attacks could further undermine the nation’s stability and economic prospects.
