AUSTIN (KXAN) — A Texas high school football heavyweight fight kicks off at 7 p.m. Friday at Chaparral Stadium with both squads looking to send a message.
No. 4 Westlake (2-0) hosts No. 9 Humble Atascocita (2-0) and both are coming off big Week 2 victories. The Chaps clobbered San Benito 63-7 at home while the Eagles soared past traditional power No. 16 Katy 41-24 on the road. The Tigers dropped five spots in the state rankings from No. 11 after the loss.
If there's one player that Westlake has to account for every snap, it's Atascocita all-everything player Cardae Mack. Mack accounted for over 340 yards and three touchdowns to lead the Eagles past Katy. He threw for two scores and ran for the other.
Westlake was able to dip deep into their bench against the Greyhounds in the blowout win. Junior quarterback Rees Wise finished 10-of-16 passing for 168 yards and two touchdowns while Justice Johnson ran for 93 yards on 13 carries for two touchdowns.
