Three Halloween attractions not returning to Capital Region this year

ALBANY, N.Y. (NEWS10) -- From haunted hayrides, houses, corn mazes and other spooky events, the Capital Region is getting into the Halloween spirit. However, there are three attractions from last year are not happening this spooky season.

The Hollowed Harvest, an attraction with a multitude of Jack-O’-Lanterns, is not returning to the Albany area this Halloween. For the last four years, Hollowed Harvest was in either Altamont or Schenectady.

This year, Hollowed Harvest announced that it'll only be in Salem, Massachusetts. "We are, however, always looking to return to previous and new locations in the future whenever and wherever the opportunity presents," the organizers told NEWS10.

An attraction that was new last year is not returning to the Schaghticoke Fairgrounds this Halloween. Spooky Island, an event with carnival rides, haunted houses, scare zones, and more, no longer seems to exists as the website and social media pages have been deleted.

The marketing specialist for the Schaghticoke Fairgrounds told NEWS10 that the Spooky Island promoter struggled to find a carnival ride provider. "The ride business has vastly changed from what it was just a decade ago and it is harder and harder (more expensive) for small operators to stay in business," said the marketing specialist.

Finally, Castle of Terror is not coming back to Armory Studios in Schenectady this year. The haunted house attraction was only held in 2023.

Armory Studios Creative Director Richard Lovrich told NEWS10 that the venue will instead be hosting the "Castle of Treats" on Halloween Day. The event will feature a free candy giveaway with music and spooky props in the grand lobby.
