Capitol Hauntings tours return next month

ALBANY, N.Y. (NEWS10)-- The Capitol Hauntings tours are set to return on Wednesday, Oct. 2. The tours will dive into the legends, folklores and tales of sightings and strange things at the state Capitol, according to the New York State Office of General Services.

Combining history and the macabre, tour guides will share stories about the night watchman who died in the 1911 Capitol fire and recount tales of the United States presidents who visited the Capitol after their deaths and more. New this year, is self-guided tours throughout the building with interactive stories on Oct. 4 and Nov. 1.

"Our Capitol Hauntings tours are a great way to celebrate the Halloween season, with a blend of history and supernatural," Commissioner Moy said. "These free tours fill up quickly, so I encourage everyone to register early and avoid missing out on this fun tour."

The free Capitol Hauntings tours will be offered on:

• Oct. 4, Nov.1: Capitol Hauntings Open House, self-guided tours at 5:30 p.m.
• Wednesday, Thursday, Friday from Oct. 2 to Oct. 25: start at the information desk at 5 p.m. and 6 p.m.
• Monday through Friday from Oct. 28 to Nov. 1: start at the information desk at 5 p.m. and 6 p.m.

There will be no tours offered on Columbus Day, Oct. 14. Space on the hour-long tours is limited and pre-registration is required.

Individuals and groups of 10 or less can register online at the Empire State Plaza's website. Parties larger than 10 should call 518-474-2418 to register.
