Darren Bent believes that Dominic Solanke can prove to be an astute signing for Tottenham but added that Richarlison is not good enough to lead the line for a side with Spurs’ ambitions.
Solanke has been brought through the door this summer to compete with Richarlison and there has already been quite a lot said and written about the big fee that Spurs have paid for the Englishman.
The 26-year-old has not had a chance to silence his critics just yet, having played just one game since the start of the season.
After Solanke picked up an injury, Richarlison would have been keen to grab his chance at St James’ Park but unfortunately for the Brazilian, he too picked up an injury.
Bent believes that Solanke could deliver 15 to 20 goals this season and offer Ange Postecoglou’s side a different dimension in attack.
Speaking on An Echo of Glory, the pundit said: “When you score 19 Premier League goals for Bournemouth that carries weight. I think he can 100% get himself back into the England squad. He’s quick, he’s powerful, he’s strong, he can score a goal and I think he’s quite creative as well.
“That was the one area since Kane has gone, you’ll never replace Kane, he’s one of the best ever. But when you get someone like him, I don’t think Richarlison is up to it, but Solanke, over the next two or three years if he can stay fit you have someone there who can get between 15-20 goals for sure.”

Unfortunately for Richarlison, it looks like his injury troubles might end up preventing him from being successful at Tottenham.
Like Bent, I remain quite confident that Solanke will prove a hit at N17 as the striker is the kind of goal-poacher who would relish being on the end of the crosses that Spurs tend to regularly play into the box.
