European talent scout Marca Palma has been speaking to Tuttomercatoweb about the best young footballers in the world, naming Lucas Bergvall as one of the starlets to watch out for.
Bergvall is seen by many in Swedish football as potentially the next big star to emerge from the nation and one can certainly see why.
Even though it is still early days for the 18-year-old at Tottenham, he has looked completely unfazed by any of the challenges so far, being one of the club’s standout players in pre-season and impressing in his cameos in the Premier League so far.
On the back of his impressive start to life at Spurs, the teenager was called up to the Swedish national side and came on as a substitute in both of their Nations League fixtures over the international break.
Palmer is impressed with the strides that Bergvall is making, naming the Spurs youngster among the five best young talents across the continent and admitting that the Swede reminds him of Barcelona star Frenkie de Jong.
Palmer said: “Then there is the 2006 Lucas Bergvall, Swedish central attacking midfielder, 187cm, of Tottenham, For many the most gifted 2006 in the European panorama, in Sweden, he arrived in the first team at 16 years old.
“Great ability to play the ball, a high-level vision of the game, elegance on the pitch, gifted with excellent technique and enormous versatility. In July 2024 he was bought by Tottenham who paid 10 million for him and immediately included him in the first team.
“Senior national team he entered in both matches played by Sweden demonstrating great mastery on the pitch. Reminiscent of Frenkie De Jong but more offensive.”
Spurs Web Opinion
One can see the parallels between De Jong and Bergvall, with the Spurs appearing to have a clear picture in his head of what is around him and appearing to be one step ahead of the opposition.
I would not be surprised if the Swede moves into a deeper midfield role like the Barca man as he matures.
