COLUMBUS, Ohio (WCMH) -- A volunteer organization dedicated to preserving Goodale Park is inviting the community to come and enjoy its "Artists in Bloom" exhibition.
This is the first year the exhibition has taken place, but members of the organization like Maddy Weisz are grateful for the artists in the community for making this dream a reality.
"We want the park to provide community and art as part of the community, particularly in the Short North. So, we want that to be incorporated in what the park is," Weisz said.
Weisz has been trying to get the Artists in Bloom exhibition to happen for years and now it's in full swing. Artists throughout Columbus displayed work highlighting the beauty of Goodale Park.
"We had the exhibit because we want people to associate art or the arts with Goodale Park," Weisz said. "We have some wonderful statue in the pond, the elephants that Malcolm Cochran did, and it's so popular."
55 local artists were chosen to show their work, three were picked as first, second and third place winners, and each will receive a cash reward. There will also be a people's choice award winner based on votes from people who come to see the exhibit. Volunteer coordinator Molly Winters Kryszan was impressed and immersed in all of the artwork.
"The talent that comes out of Columbus, it is almost mind blowing because there's just so much talent and so many people who connect with that park on such a deeper level,” Winters Kryszan said.
Members of the group are thrilled with how this exhibition turned out and have a special message to all those who helped make it possible.
“I say thank you, we are so happy with all of it, and it looks fabulous,” Weisz said. “It really does, I had no idea would look this good.”
The exhibition will be on display until Sept. 27 at the first commonwealth bank in the short north.
