The Entire Staff of Annapurna Interactive ‘Collectively Resigned’
The staff of Annapurna Interactive, the video games division of Annapurna Pictures, and makers of games like Stray and Outer Wilds have all quit their jobs, reports Bloomberg. “All 25 members of the Annapurna Interactive team collectively resigned,” former president Nathan Gary shared with the outlet in a group statement. “This was one of the hardest decisions we have ever had to make and we did not take this action lightly.” Along with the team, Gary has been negotiating with their parent company, Annapurna Pictures’s founder, Megan Ellison, to become an independent company. Ellison reportedly pulled out of negotiations, resulting in the team’s resignation. “Our top priority is continuing to support our developer and publishing partners during this transition,” Ellison told Bloomberg. “We’re committed to not only our existing slate of games but also expanding our presence in the interactive space as we continue to look for opportunities to take a more integrated approach to linear and interactive storytelling across film and TV, gaming, and theater.” Vulture has reached out to Annapurna Interactive and Ellison’s reps for comment.
Annapurna Interactive’s new president, Hector Sanchez, has allegedly told developers that all of their projects will continue as planned, with new employees replacing the former staff. So, if you were holding out for the Blade Runner 2033: Labyrinth game, you can breathe— at least for now.
