African National Congress Secretary General Fikile Mbalula is giving an update on the health status of former minister, Pravin Gordhan. Mbalula visited Gordhan earlier on Thursday.
The party has also expressed its well wishes to Gordhan.
"We have noted a statement issued by the family of Comrade Pravin Gordhan regarding his admission to hospital. The ANC would like to extend its heartfelt wishes for a swift and complete recovery to former ANC National Executive Committee (NEC) member and veteran of our movement, Comrade Pravin Gordhan.
“During this time of health challenges, our thoughts and prayers are with the family, and we are confident that the strength and determination he possesses will see him through this period.
“We look forward to his full recovery to health and continued contribution to our movement and service to the country,” ANC acting national spokesperson, Zuko Godlimpi, said.
Earlier, Gordhan’s family spokesperson rubbished reports that the former minister has passed away.
IOL previously reported that Gordhan was admitted to hospital.
At the time, Adrian Lackay said the former minister of public enterprises and finance, was receiving the best medical care.
The ANC in KZN will on Thursday night hold a vigil for Gordhan at the Kendra Hall in Durban.
