The highly anticipated presidential debate between Vice President Kamala Harris and former President Donald Trump is finally here as the two candidates prepare to square off against each other on the issues, and probably much more.
The debate is set to take place in Philadelphia, scheduled to begin at 9:00 p.m. ET and will be hosted by and televised on ABC News.
However, if you aren’t able to watch the debate via traditional means like a TV set, keep reading to find how to view the debate between Vice President Kamala Harris and former President Donald Trump online via livestream.
The debate is scheduled to take place amid 1,300 watch parties nationwide as organized for Harris campaign volunteers and supporters, including on some college campuses and with digital creators in battleground states in event that will double a voter outreach efforts.
“With less than 60 days until Election Day, Team Harris-Walz is turning energy into action,” Harris-Walz 2024 Spokesperson Seth Schuster said in a statement shared Tuesday with NewsOne. “This debate is yet another moment our campaign is using to engage voters and volunteers for the fight ahead. This will be an incredibly close race. That’s why we are relentlessly mobilizing volunteers across the battlegrounds to activate their friends, families, and neighbors around the clear choice between Vice President Harris’ vision for the future and Donald Trump’s plans to drag us back.”
Both candidates come into Tuesday night’s debate in a dead heat, according to the latest national polls.
A Pew Research Center poll conducted from Aug. 26 to Sept. 2 found that Harris and Trump each garnered 49% of the support among more than 9,700 voters who were surveyed.
In the latest Harvard-Harris poll, the candidates were deadlocked at 50% each, according to the results of an online survey of more than 2,300 voters conducted over the course of two days last week. Those numbers fell by one percentage point for each candidate when factoring in third-party candidates, still leaving Harris and Trump tied.
Both of those polls were released Monday, along with other state-specific polling results that underscore the importance of swing states and battleground states like Florida, Georgia and Pennsylvania in the upcoming election in November.
The tight polling suggests that the racist attacks Harris has faced from Trump as well as his top surrogates and other supports have not been as effective as they likely hoped.
While some of the attacks from Trump have been about policy, including immigration, his campaign has shown a lack of mastery of the issues and has instead resorted to attacking Harris on, of all things, her recollections of working at McDonald’s while in college.
Others went so far as to accuse Harris of speaking in “Ebonics” while addressing an audience at a rally in Detroit, a city in which the population is disproportionately Black.
Harris, on the other hand, has been laser-focused on her presidential policies, including an interview with radio host Rickey Smiley touting her plan for the economy.
People watching the debate Tuesday night can likely expect a fine blend of all of the above with Harris continuing along her presidential trajectory and Trump devolving into a cascade of attacks that straddle racial lines.
Perhaps that’s what Harris’ campaign wants to happen. After all, she has been ruthlessly taunting Trump for weeks in an example of how the vice president may try to beat Trump at his own game all the way to the White House.
It is in that context that the first presidential debate between Vice President Kamala Harris and former President Donald Trump will be taking place Tuesday night at 9:00 p.m. ET.
