TWO new Mr Men books will hit shelves today — featuring prolific liar Mr Fib and the permanently startled Little Miss Surprise.
They are the first new characters for three years in the popular children’s book series, launched in 1971.
Round and green Mr Fib, the 51st Mr Men creation, is an eccentric with a blue top hat who “fibs to impress people”.
His book follows him as his lies spiral out of control. Little Miss Surprise is a purple character with crazy pink hair who “never knows what each day may bring”.
She takes Mr Quiet — who first appeared in 1978 — for a “surprise” day out.
Both new books were written and illustrated by Adam Hargreaves, 60, who took over from his Mr Men creator dad Roger after his death in 1988.
Mr Calm — who taught kids how to cope with stress — was the last new character, introduced in 2021.
The first ever Mr Men book — Mr Tickle — came about after Adam asked his dad to draw what a tickle looked like.
Since then more than 90 characters have been introduced, selling 250 million books in 17 languages and in 28 countries.
Author Adam said: “Mr Fib has been rattling around in my imagination for a long while. Little Miss Surprise, of course, popped into my head right out of the blue!
“It’s always fun creating new characters to add to the series, although I’ve got a way to go to catch up with my dad.”
