A neighbour said she was found covered in blood in her kitchen and had been stabbed several times.

The carer’s murder suspect hit and killed by an HGV on the eastbound M65 near Blackburn, Lancashire, just hours after Barbara’s death.

Barbara’s neighbour Susan Loppyslyva, 47, said: “We were in when there was a bang at the door.

“It her housemate in a real state. She was screamed: ‘Help me, help me.’

“She was hysterical shouting: ‘Oh God no, not Barbara’ and said she didn’t know what to do.

“The poor woman had come into the kitchen with some water and found…

“She knocked the jug of water and ran to our house for help.

“I went into the house with my husband. We saw her there lying on the floor in the kitchen.

“She had been stabbed many times and was covered in blood.

“It was obvious she was dead and my husband said we shouldn’t touch anything and we dialled 999.”

The mum-of-three added: “It was a massive shock.

“Her housemate had collapsed on the floor, screaming.

“It’s heartbreaking. Barbara was a lovely woman – very hardworking.”

Barbara’s family have described her as a “caring and hard-working person” in a moving tribute.

A spokesperson for her family said: “Barbara was a caring and hard-working person.

“She was so thoughtful and always checking up on her family and friends. Barbara loved her family and enjoyed working as a carer.

“We loved Barbara so much and life will not be the same without her.”

Greater Manchester Police have confirmed that they are not looking for any other suspects.

Detective Chief Inspector Mark Davis said: “I know just how much Barbara’s family will miss her and I hope that the memories of her can provide comfort as they begin to come to terms with this heartbreaking loss.

“This is a complex investigation which is very much ongoing and we remain in contact with colleagues in Lancashire as they progress their own investigation into the circumstances of the fatal collision.”
