VIRGIN Media customers can now access more than 150 extra TV channels at no extra cost in the latest bumper upgrade.
Viewers will also find over 1,000 movies and TV show episodes to watch instantly from their boxes.
App is available on Virgin TV360 or Stream[/caption]It’s all made possible with the arrival of Rakuten TV.
The app is a free service available on many platforms already but this is the first time people will be able to use it directly within Virgin TV’s kit making it more convenient.
Some of the free on-demand movies you can watch at the moment include:
As for the TV channels, many are themed around popular classic shows.
There’s a channel devoted to chat shows with archive episodes of Friday Night With Jonathan Ross and Alan Carr‘s Chatty Man.
For sports fans there’s FIFA+, as well as DAZN Women’s Football with some live matches.
There’s also Hell’s Kitchen, The Great British Menu and even a channel of everything Mr Bean.
The Rakuten TV app also offers some paid rentals, but the free content is kept under separate tabs so you can avoid them if desired.
Virgin Media has been gradually adopting more internet-streamed channels, known as FAST (free ad-supported TV) in the industry.
In May, 11 such channels including History Hunters, Deal Masters, Qello Concerts, Trace Sports Stars, Real Crime, Real Life, ZenLIFE, UKTV Play Laughs, UKTV Play Heroes, UKTV Play Full Throttle and UKTV Play Uncovered were added.
To access the Rakuten TV service, you will need to be in possession of a Virgin TV360 box or Stream.
“Virgin TV is the home of great entertainment with a host of must-have apps, on demand shows and popular channels,” said David Bouchier, Chief TV and Entertainment Officer at Virgin Media O2.
“The addition of the Rakuten TV app to our platform gives our customers access to even more unmissable content and fan-favourite films at the click of a button.”
