Lucas Bergvall admits that he has found the quality and pace of the Premier League to be an incredible step up, adding that he is looking to adapt to the demands of English football as soon as possible.
Many did not expect a lot of Bergvall in his first season at Spurs, given the size of the jump that the 18-year-old was making from the Allsvenskan to a top-six Premier League side.
However, the teenager has caught many by surprise with the way he has adapted to life at the North London club, having featured as a substitute in all three of Tottenham’s Premier League matches so far.
Ange Postecoglou admitted last week that he has been delighted with the way the attacking midfielder has taken to his system and understood what is expected of them (Football.London).
The youngster has been rewarded for his impressive performances with a call-up to the Sweden squad for their upcoming Nations League fixtures.
When asked about surpassing expectations at Tottenham so far, Bergvall has told Aftonbladet: “I don’t know what my expectations were before, to be honest. I came into a tough but fun pre-season. It was very new. I just wanted to start playing football again after the holiday break. The only thing I knew was that it would be tough.
“It was a motivation when I came to a new league with new people, new teammates, new coaches, new facilities, diet, training, physical activity, everything.
“It feels like I have taken very big steps these two months. That I get into it more and more and have been able to adapt more to the game that is played in the Premier League.
“The quality of the players and the teams you face. It’s incredible quality, everywhere. It is not possible to make that many mistakes or any mistakes at all. You must always be ready. This is the case regardless of where you play, but now it can be punished a little easier.”

Bergvall appears to have an incredibly mature head on his young shoulders and does not come across as the sort of player who gets carried away.
If he continues working hard on his game and shows the right attitude, the sky is the limit for the midfielder, whose raw ability is considerable.
