A WOMAN who was once financially stable took the controversial decision to sell her hair after being left strapped for cash.
Having never done anything like this before, Jessica Trujillo took drastic measures in a bid to make cash quickly as she shipped her hair for $500 (£381).

However, the 43-year-old felt slightly uncomfortable in chopping her hair off having never entered this type of world before where she demanded the three figures up front to ensure she wasn’t wasting her time.
Jessica, from Marion, Texas, USA, said: “I found someone who was willing to pay $500 (£381) and so I agreed to it, but we agreed upon was that they would pay in advance because I didn’t trust that I wasn’t going to be paid after cutting my hair.
“I expressed to them that I had never done anything like that before.
”I told them that I didn’t want them to feel like I was going to scam them either.”
Whilst chatting with the eventual buyer, Jessica learned that the hair was going to be used by a hair stylist for demonstrations and practice.
The duo agreed that once the payment was made, they would have a video call where they could watch Jessica’s hair being cut by her sister.
Jessica and her sister run a small farm but after adopting several dogs, chickens, and goats she realised that money got tight – this led to the drastic decision.
From hair that once flowed down to her stomach, Jessica’s locks now rest just above her collarbone, following the dramatic chop.
Since selling her hair she has rebuffed proposals by other people prompting her to sell more of her hair as nobody she’s spoken with has agreed to her price.
Speaking about her decision to sell her hair, Jessica explained: “I’ve had people reach out to me to ask me about the experience and if I had any advice. I would never cut my hair unless I get paid first.
“This is not a length that I’d typically have my hair.
“Since then, I’ve also had people reach out to me trying to get me to cut my hair for money again. I’ve had quite a few people ask me to cut my hair again.
“Nobody’s willing to pay as much as I’m asking because now, I want more than I charged the person for the length of hair that I sold before.
“Because now, when I sold my hair before, it was really long so then it was for the length of hair that I was selling.
“But now, I’m not looking to sell so when people come to me and are asking to buy my hair, they’re going to be leaving me with a haircut I definitely don’t want.”
The amount you can rake in from your tresses can differ from vendor to vendor and also other factors, such as the quality and length.
However, according to Coupon Queen, ”most companies in the UK are willing to pay anywhere from £15 for at least 10 inches of hair (shorter lengths) to £250 for 30 inches of hair (longer lengths)”.
So, if you want to make more cash, you should ensure it’s damage-free and in great condition.
But if your tresses have been bleached, dyed or chemically treated and damaged from heat styling, you may still be able to flog it – but at a lower price.
