TWO routinely used cooking ingredients are among the essentials a money-savvy woman uses to make a softening hair mask.
She raved that her DIY haircare keeps her from splurging money on expensive products.
A Reddit user revealed the DIY mask she uses to keep her hair soft and shiny (stock image)[/caption]The woman shared several ideas for cutting the cost of self-care in a post on Reddit’s Beauty forum, which has over 982,000 members.
She wrote in response to a Redditor asking for “broke b***h beauty tips.”
She recommended mixing two natural ingredients with an affordable hair oil to make a mask that boosts hair health.
“Don’t be afraid to do a mask,” she said, writing under the handle Spicysiciliana.
“I’m not gonna spend 50 on hair masks.
“Hask sells them in lil packets for about $4 but other than that?
“I use amla oil, eggs, and honey. Makes my hair sooo soft and shiny, curly girl approved too.”
Amla hair oil can be picked up alongside eggs and honey when grocery shopping at Walmart.
The $8.49 product is a blend of mineral and vegetable oils that prevents damage, premature graying, and reduces hair fall.
According to the brand, the oil is most effective when massaged into the scalp and left overnight or for at least 30 minutes before washing out.
Walmart customers have given the oil a 4.1-star rating out of 5 and shared their honest opinions in reviews.
One shopper praised its smell, while another said it helped grow their tresses to waist length.
“I really love this product, it has me and my daughter’s hair so shiny,” a third said.
“The moisture really locks in even after it’s washed out making your hair look beautiful. I’d buy it 10x over.”
Amla fruit comes from the Amalaki tree found in India, according to Healthline.
Scientific research supports claims that it can improve the appearance of hair and its growth.
There is a risk of using too much Amla oil, but researchers suggest the ideal concentration is 7.5 percent solution with water.

The Redditor was also highly upvoted on the thread for sharing skincare tips.
She suggested swapping moisturizers for olive oil, avocado oil, or coconut oil.
Castor oil is her preference for the skin under the eyes and oil pulling for teeth whitening.
“DIY manicure, do honey & milk and soak for 20 minutes,” she said.
“Push back your cuticles, then use some Sally Hansen Insta dry polish.
“Those cheap polishes work so well for me! Afterward, apply a clear strengthening coat & cuticle oil.
“Onto pedicures, just use warm water, coconut oil maybe espom salt if you have any.”
She said a color conditioner can lengthen the time between coloring for dyed hair.
Smelling good doesn’t have to be expensive as she uses vanilla and strawberry extracts on her pulse points rather than perfume.
“After your shower put on shea butter oil, lotion, and some Vaseline body gel,” she said.
“Be a baddie on a budget!!”
