Nestled in a little corner of Limassol’s old town, Jam Restaurant is secluded from the main bustling streets. With greenery and fairy lights on the outside, it lures people in with its bold colours and minimalist appearance.
We walked by on a typical summer evening, and struck by the ambience and Mediterranean charm, grabbed a table.
The menu has a bit of everything. Enough to give ample choice but not overwhelming for the indecisive types who get easily lost when given a plethora of options. Once we were seated, it became clear it was the kind of night that called for opposites to complement each other. A burger and beer for one, and salad for the other.
The Jam Burger was truly a feast for the eyes. Towering on the plate with the fries, we watched it zoom towards the table in the waiter’s hands and knew it would be impossible to finish. The dish is 220g of black Angus beef, with house-made miso mayo, scarmoza cheese, the restaurant’s signature tomato jam, caramelised onion and bacon, with iceberg lettuce.
Thick salty French fries accompanied this burger, and the beer sealed the deal. The meat was tender, juicy and ticked all the right boxes. The cheese, jam, onion and bacon added their own blend of flavours which were mixed up together to make a perfect harmony of ingredients for the final result.
The menu does offer an option to double up but it’s not for the faint-hearted.
For the ‘I want to eat healthy’, vegetarian half of the table who looked at the burger feast before her with pangs in her stomach, there was a very real fear that the cutely named Buddha Bowl would be a painful disappointment. Not because the dish wouldn’t be good, but a food option from ‘The Greens’ section can sometimes struggle to fight against a delicious looking burger.
Thankfully, the worst was avoided. The Buddha Bowl is made up of quinoa, sauteed mushrooms in teriyaki sauce, sweet potato, chickpeas, pomegranate, edamame, avocado, tahini dressing and fresh coriander.
Much to my delight, the dish was delicious, filling and had enough going to stand for on its own.
The mushrooms offered a richness to the dish with the sauce which blended with the sweetness of the potato, while the chickpeas added texture and saltiness along with the quinoa and tahini to keep the bowl balanced in flavours, that worked well.
With our respective dishes heartily consumed and the music keeping up the fun vibe, we were unfortunately so full that there was no room for us to contemplate having dessert though the options looked enticing. In true inclusivity, we saw a Raw Vegan Caramel Slice that we decided we must try, as well as a Cheesecake cookie that speaks for itself.
Be aware, the restaurant also offers brunch and lunch options. It’s very much an all-day location that offers a relaxed ambience whether you want a coffee, a drink, or a meal.
