Gold says that while Ange Postecoglou was always planning on handing minutes to the two academy players, the struggles of others ‘could accelerate their chances’, particularly given that Spurs begin their Carabao Cup and Europa League campaigns soon.

The journalist states that Spurs turned down loan approaches from several clubs for Lankshear this summer, with the 19-year-old considered one of the best finishers at Hotspur Way.

He also points out that the teenager picked up an injury while featuring for the Under-21s against Bristol Rovers last week but is expected to be back within the next fortnight.
