A woman has gone missing in the waters off the coast of Edinburgh, Scotland.
Reports of concern for the woman were raised at around 2.45pm today, with rescue teams combing the beauty spot Wardie Bay by the Granton Harbour.
Wardie Bay, popular with wild swimmers, is on the southern shore of the Firth of Forth, an arm of the North Sea.
The woman is a member of a swimming club and was reported missing after a head count, locals said according to The Edinburgh Reporter.
Lifeboats and at least one helicopter have been spotted.
A police spokesperson said: ‘We were made aware of concern for a woman in the water near Wardie Bay, Lower Granton Road, Edinburgh around 3.05pm on Tuesday, 3 September 2024.
‘Emergency services are in attendance.’
A spokesperson for HM Coastguard added: ‘HM Coastguard is coordinating the search for a woman in the water at Wardie Bay, Edinburgh.
‘A report of concern was raised at about 2.45pm on 3 September.
‘The RNLI’s inshore lifeboats from Kinghorn and South Queensferry are supporting, as well as nearby vessels. Police Scotland has been alerted.’
