An eight-day remand was issued against a 20-year-old man by Famagusta District Court on Tuesday in connection with an attempted murder investigation after a woman said she was strangled.
The incident reportedly took place on August 31 at a hotel in the Famagusta district.
According to police, a 23-year-old woman reported to Famagusta CID she had been attacked by a man she had recently met while they were in a hotel room.
The woman told police that the man assaulted her and attempted to strangle her, causing her to lose consciousness.
When she regained consciousness, she called for help. Nearby people found her and called an ambulance. She was then taken to Famagusta general hospital, where she received first aid.
During the investigation, evidence emerged against the 20-year-old suspect, leading to the issuance of a warrant for his arrest.
The suspect, a British national, was found by British Bases police in Akrotiri on Sunday. He was arrested and later handed over to the Republic’s authorities.
The suspect appeared before the SBA court on Monday, where the appropriate legal procedures for his transfer to Cypriot custody were completed.
He was then re-arrested by Famagusta CID.
