RIVERDALE, N.J. (PIX11) - It's how this Morris County Borough says 'bye' to summer.
Few of the hundreds of people who came out to Riverdale's Labor Day Street Fair on Monday were having as much fun as McKayla, who starts kindergarten on Tuesday. But before she begins the milestone, she and her family spent the last summer day on Riverdale's Newark Pompton Turnpike.
"It's a beautiful day to be out in town," said Robyn Abramson of Wayne.
"Just an activity that's family-friendly and fun for everybody," said Erik Abramson.
It's an annual tradition that was blessed with a beautiful day.
"I've never been here before. I'm having a great time," said Tom Delaney of Bayonne, N.J. "I'm going to come again, definitely."
"It's really nice," said State Assemblyman Brian Bergen, R-26. "The day is great. There are tons of vendors, and it's a nice celebration for Labor Day. We always get good weather here in Riverdale."
It's not Labor Day without something on the grill, and at this street fair, Anna Paisley is turning up the heat.
"We make jerk chicken, we make everything from Jamaica and Puerto Rico," said Paisley of T.L.O.S. Catering. "We're fusion that speaks to ourselves. We're spicing up everyone's life."
Heading across the street to Cheff's on Wheels. JP Garces is grilling up his own twist on Labor Day burgers and dogs.
"We put seasoning on it, we go crazy. We're Colombian," said Garces.
It brings a smile to his face to see a blend of so many cultures - helping to end the summer on a high note.
"I think it's love," said Garces. "Just food and everything; it gathers people, and it brings everyone together."
