IT seemed that time was kind to one woman who credited her youthful appearance to a skincare staple.
She was in awe that her longtime anti-aging routine had resulted in such smooth skin.
It seemed that sticking to a cheap drugstore buy over the years paid off for one woman who was impressed with her skin as she continued to age (stock image)[/caption]Redditor Nouniqueideas007 might have experienced an “uninformed journey into anti-aging skincare” in her 20s, but she was now thankful for what she was looking back at her in the mirror.
“And here I am now, much older, maybe wiser, but my skin looks damned good, for my age,” she said.
“I don’t look 20, but I’m not a wrinkled prune either. I work with a wide range of ages and everyone thinks I’m much younger than I am. So I’m happy with that.”
While she didn’t include sunscreen in her beauty regimen back in the day – which she regretted – she shared what frugal find she was a fan of.
“I used to sneak into my mom’s bathroom and use her Oil of Olay face cream, as a teen,” she said.
Still, she wished she could have gone back in time and switched things up a bit.
“No end to the stupidity though, because I barely used sunscreen, had a couple of good sunburns, and used to go to the tanning salon,” she said.
She recalled how the only skincare information available back when she was young was whatever could be found in magazines or from the “lady at the makeup counter at Macy’s.”
She had also picked up another tip while traveling.
While on a trip to Mexico at 24 years old, she recalled how her “first big step” in her skincare journey was buying Retin-A cream.
Due to the language barrier, however, she was winging it when it came to reducing wrinkles as she wasn’t even able to read the instructions.
She also took advice from a girl she used to work with who sold Avon cosmetics.
“I remember they had the little book and it had different face creams based on your age,” she said.
Not equipped with any anti-aging knowledge, she wound up buying the cream for the 50 and over age group because she thought it “would work better than the age-appropriate cream.”
She would go on to continue using the cream for a decade – but that wasn’t all she incorporated into her routine.

“And no skincare regimen, back in the day, would be complete without St. Ives Apricot Scrub,” she said.
If you want to try an Olay face buy for yourself, Olay Niacinamide Hydrating Cream is on sale on the brand’s website for $22.49.
Others also shared their own skincare tips.
“My aunt used tretinoin faithfully along with every skincare thing she could get from the time she was young. But she started the consistent tretinoin in the 90s,” said a Redditor.
“Now in my late 40s it’s about preventative maintenance – gentle cleansing, vitamin C serum, moisturizer, sunscreen, retinol a few times a week, and an exfoliant maybe once a week,” another commented.
“Skincare is only a small part of your battle. How you deal with daily stress, exercise, and your diet are a bigger part of looking and feeling young,” another user added.
