Frances Tiafoe is heading to the 2024 U.S. Open quarterfinals!
On Sunday night (September 1), the 26-year-old American tennis player defeated Australia’s Alexei Popyrin during the tennis tournament in Arthur Ashe Stadium in Queens, New York.
After his big win, Tiafoe couldn’t leave the court before giving a special shout-out to Tony Goldwyn, who was up in the stands!

“Hold on, hold on. Sorry, sorry,” Tiafoe, 26, said in the clip shared on X. “Tony Goldwyn was in the crowd. Yo, I’m a huge fan of you, bro.”
“Me and my girl used to watch Scandal all the time,” Tiafoe added, who has been dating former Div. I tennis champ Ayan Broomfield since 2015. “I’m a huge fan, brother. I’m a huge fan, bro. I gotta say that!”
A live shot of Tony with a big smile on his face then appeared on the big screen as he continued celebrating Tiafoe‘s win.
Tony attended the match with a ton of his former Scandal co-stars including Scott Foley, Bellamy Young, Katie Lowes, and Jeff Perry along with show creator Shonda Rhimes.
Tiafoe will next face off against Bulgaria’s Grigor Dimitrov on Tuesday, Sept. 3 for a spot in the semifinals.
