The short-lived revival of Bennifer 2.0 has officially come to an end. After just two years of marriage, Jennifer Lopez and Ben Affleck have called it quits, with Lopez filing for divorce in Los Angeles on August 20. The writing was on the wall as whispers of trouble brewed, as evidenced by Lopez’s solo trips to Italy and the Hamptons and Affleck’s new bachelor pad purchase near his ex, Jennifer Garner. It’s been reported that the last few months were “torture” for Lopez, who had hoped for reconciliation.
However, with any chance of resolution very clearly out the window, JLo’s Instagram post on August 31 sent a clear message: she’s ready to embrace her next chapter, and like HGTV star Christina Hall, it doesn’t involve letting anyone, particularly a man, from disturbing her peace.
Her Instagram post, captioned “Oh, it was a summer,” features a carousel of telling images. It kicks off with a bathroom selfie, where Lopez gives her best Blue Steel face in black jeans and a turtleneck. The second slide simply reads, “Everything is unfolding in divine order,” a popular breakup. Other images show her enjoying some ice cream in a mint and white dress, sharing a moment with her sister Lynda Lopez, and capturing slice-of-life moments like a playful kitten poking out of a Super Mario backpack, her 16-year-old son, Max Muñiz, in the kitten’s company, and a statement shirt that declares, “She’s in bloom and unbothered, out of reach and at peace.”
For those not up to speed on the Bennifer saga, a quick recap: Lopez and Affleck first captured hearts in the early 2000s after meeting on the set of Gigli. They got engaged in 2002 but split in 2004 before exchanging “I Do’s.”
Fast forward to late 2021 — right after Lopez split from ex-fiancé Alex Rodriguez — and Bennifer reignited, marrying twice. Yet, round two was not without its ups and downs. Sources reveal Lopez often felt like she was carrying the relationship, trying to lift Affleck’s spirits. Meanwhile, Affleck faced numerous relationship expectations. By the time their $68 million Beverly Hills mansion hit the market in June, insiders hinted it was just a matter of time before they called it quits.
As they navigate post-divorce challenges, Jennifer Lopez and Ben Affleck face the awkwardness of professional collaborations, such as the upcoming sports drama Unstoppable, which Affleck produced and Lopez stars in. No matter Affleck’s choices, Lopez seems to be broadcasting her unbothered status loud and clear — because nothing screams “unbothered” quite like making a point of saying how unbothered you are, right? Only time will tell how everything shakes out for the two.
