MLB rosters expand from 26 players to 28 players once September rolls around, and the Red Sox reportedly have plans on who they will bring in.
According to MassLive and The Boston Globe, Boston will call up infielder Enmanuel Valdez and pitcher Chase Shugart from Triple-A Worcester. The duo will travel to Detroit and will be available to play in the club's series finale against the Detroit Tigers at Comerica Park.
Valdez played 60 games for the Red Sox before he was optioned to Triple-A Worcester on Aug. 14. The left-handed bat had six home runs and 27 RBIs off an 86 OPS+, and he's kept up his solid production with the WooSox with 11 home runs and 30 RBIs in 50 games.
Shugart had a "dream come true" MLB debut when he pitched against the Baltimore Orioles on Aug. 15. He allowed one run off three hits and struck out two batters in 2 2/3 innings. Since the 27-year-old was optioned back to Triple-A Worcester, he's tossed 5 2/3 scoreless innings over four outings. Shugart also allowed just one hit and one walk while striking out six.
First pitch for the Red Sox's series final against the Tigers is scheduled at 1:40 p.m. ET, and you can catch full coverage on NESN after an hour of pregame.
