You know Nick Saban is really retired when the former Alabama coach is smiling and cracking jokes on the first true college football Saturday of the year.
Now that he’s a member of ESPN’s College GameDay and not spending his weekends toiling on the sidelines, the coach has let his guard down and — to no one’s surprise — he’s actually pretty hilarious on TV.
Not only does he know how to share his knowledge with a national audience, he’s quick with a quip, too. Even if it costs him a small FCC fine.
While discussing the pressure on Ohio State and head coach Ryan Day this season, Saban chimed in once the GameDay panel brought up the fact the Buckeyes reportedly spent $20 million reloading its roster this offseason.
“You guys keep talking about a $20 million roster,” Saban said. “But if you don’t pay the right guys, you’ll be [expletive] out of luck.”

As if Ryan Day needed the reminder.
