STILLWATER, Oklahoma – Arkansas seniors Elias Schreml and Tommy Romanow were the leading Razorbacks in the Cowboy Preview 5,000m race hosted by Oklahoma State on Friday morning as they finished 11th and 13th.
In team scoring Tulsa generated 26 points for the victory with Texas A&M (59) second, Arkansas (85) third, host Oklahoma State (97) fourth, and Oklahoma (103) fifth. Many of the top runners for the nationally ranked programs – No. 1 OSU, No. 3 Razorbacks, and No. 28 Tulsa – didn’t compete in the early season race.
Sooner freshman Thobias Cheruiyot won the 5,000m race in 14:57.2 on the Greiner Family course with Tulsa’s Shay McEvoy runner-up in 14:59.1.
Schreml covered the course in 15:17.5 with Romanow finishing in 15:23.4. The next Arkansas finisher was junior newcomer Davis Helmerich, who placed 14th in 15:24.7, while Jack Williams finished 16th in 15:27.0.
Freshman Donovan Bitticks completed the Razorbacks team score as the fifth finisher on the team, placing 35th overall (15:59.4) and 31st in adjusted scoring. Additional freshmen included Dawson Welch, 37th (16:03.5), Leo Spitzer, 40th (16:07.3), and Eli Seavey, 43rd (16:12.7).
