Rounding up all Warriors and NBA related news for Friday, August 30th.
Steph Curry has reached yet another milestone in his storied career. With the announcement of his one-year, $62.2 million extension with the Golden State Warriors on Thursday, Curry becomes the third NBA player to surpass $500 million in career earnings. The 36-year-old two-time MVP, four-time NBA champion, and recent Olympic gold medalist now joins LeBron James and Kevin Durant as the only players in league history to achieve this remarkable financial milestone.

Because of the Over 38 rule, the 1 year extension is the maximum that Golden State could offer. https://t.co/oOJYCxlzil
Curry’s extension, which keeps him under contract through the 2026-27 season, speaks to his confidence in the Warriors’ ability to remain competitive in the near future. Throughout his career, Curry has expressed his desire to be a Warrior for life—on the condition that the team stays in title contention. By committing to this deal, Curry is placing his trust in the franchise that drafted him back in 2009, signaling his belief in their vision to build a championship-caliber roster as he enters the twilight of his career.
For more on this and other news around the NBA, here is our latest news round-up for Friday, August 30th:
If Curry were to retire at the end of his current contract, he would have made a total of $532,677,168 in on-court earnings throughout his then-18-year career.
And that’s not counting the money he has made from the plethora of off-the-court endorsement deals and other personal ventures.
It’s safe to say Curry will have done very well for himself financially by the time he does decide to retire from the NBA.
But Curry signing on is a bit of a vote of confidence in the organization that it will continue pushing to give him a real shot at one more title. Involved closely in the Warriors’ efforts this offseason — from personally recruiting Paul George to regular dialogue with general manager Mike Dunleavy — Curry’s signing is a vote of confidence in the efforts made.
Warriors get:

“It was a lot. In the age of social media, you see everything,” Tatum said during a phone call. “You see all the tweets and the people on the podcasts and people on TV giving their opinion on whether they thought it was a good decision or it was an outrageous decision or whatever. Obviously, I wanted to contribute more, and I’ve never been in (this) situation. I started playing basketball at (age) 3 at the YMCA, and I’ve never not played, so it was different and it was challenging.”
While the Leonard-George era only produced one Western Conference finals appearance in five years, Lue told ESPN in July he doesn’t “look at it as a failure.”
“We never put our best team on the floor in the playoffs,” Lue said. “That’s when Kawhi’s at his best, PG’s at his best. That’s when I’m at my best. When you get to a seven-game series and you can pick teams apart offensively and defensively, we were never able to get to that point.
“These guys put the hard work in. We took different approaches to help guys stay healthy and it just didn’t work. We tried everything.”

Waters can, on his best day, fill the Shaun Livingston role a little bit. He’s a very solid defensive player, with the agility of a guard, but the length (6’6 height, with an even longer wingspan) of a wing. He gets into passing lanes regularly and disrupts plays, and could help form the part of an exciting, active, and pesky defensive lineup.
In short, Waters will have a chance to bring a lot to the table, in some form or fashion. He may have slipped to the back of a lot of people’s minds, but he’s still a player who could be a key part of a successful season.
