Amnesty International Germany has warned that deporting Afghan migrants could implicate Germany in human rights violations.
Amnesty International emphasized that Germany’s commitment to the rule of law should not undermine its adherence to international laws.
Meanwhile, it stated that the deportation of Afghan migrants could implicate Germany in supporting the Taliban.
On August 30, Amnesty International Germany responded to the deportation of 28 Afghan “criminal” migrants by noting that extrajudicial killings, disappearances, torture, and abuse have become routine in Afghanistan. The organization subtly urged the German government to avoid deporting Afghan migrants under any circumstances.
German Interior Minister Nancy Faeser announced the deportation of Afghan migrants on social media. This is the first instance of Afghanistan-bound deportations since the Taliban’s takeover in August 2021. Faeser stated, “Our security is important. The government is adhering to the German constitution.”
In response, Amnesty International Germany stated that no one in Afghanistan is safe. If Germany continues to deport Afghan migrants, it risks becoming complicit with the Taliban.
Spiegel magazine noted that a flight carrying 28 Afghan migrants departed from Leipzig Airport to Kabul.
These deportations have sparked significant concern. Amnesty International’s warning highlights the potential risks associated with returning individuals to a country where they face severe dangers, urging Germany to reconsider its policy for the safety and humanitarian responsibility towards Afghan migrants.
