Weather alert in place Friday as temps heat up around Portland metro

PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) -- A KOIN 6 Weather Alert is in place Friday through Saturday as unseasonably warm temperatures overcome the Portland, Vancouver area.

Temperatures Friday afternoon will warm into the mid-90s along the Willamette Valley. No records are expected to be broken, but highs will remain over 10 degrees above average. Relief from the heat can be felt along the coast as temperatures sit in the 70s on Friday and Saturday.

Saturday will be the peak of the heat felt around the Pacific Northwest. That's where highs will climb into the mid- to upper-90s by the afternoon and early evening hours. Some relief from the heat will be felt Sunday with highs returning to the upper 80s. That's still warmer than average for the start of September. It is a slight cooling trend for the start of meteorological fall on September 1st.

Caution should be taken for those spending time out at the Oregon State Fair this weekend. Temperatures will remain high with a strong to extreme UV index. Sunscreen, hydration, and breaks indoors should be practiced this weekend.

Portland area temperatures near average conditions by the start of next week. It's short-lived as temperatures warm again later in the week. This next warming trend isn't expected to last as long as the one underway Friday.
