Ange Postecoglou has provided a team news update ahead of Sunday’s match against Newcastle United during this afternoon’s press conference at Hotspur Way.
Spurs make the trip to Tyneside having secured their first three points of the campaign with a comfortable 4-0 victory against Everton at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium last weekend.
St James’ Park has not been a happy hunting ground for Tottenham in recent years with the North Londoners suffering a 4-0 defeat last season, along with the 6-1 thrashing the season prior.
Newcastle have an identical record to Tottenham this campaign with one win and a draw to their name, and were also in action in the Carabao Cup on Wednesday night where they beat Nottingham Forest on penalties.
Such is the protocol, the media are informed of the availability of the Spurs first-team squad ahead of the clash against Eddie Howe’s side.
Tottenham were without the services of big money signing Dominic Solanke for the visit of the Toffees after he sustained an ankle injury in the 1-1 draw at Leicester City.
Micky van de Ven put in an impressive shift against Everton, however, the jet-heeled defender did have an injury scare when he hyperextended his knee, but did manage to play the full 90 minutes.
Postecoglou told the official Spurs site: “Dom is close but we’re going to be a bit cautious with him, we’ve got a big programme post the international break, so he’ll miss out on Sunday.
“The only other one we got midweek is Richarlison, who unfortunately picked up an injury in training, so he’ll probably miss the next few weeks.”
Rodrigo Bentancur returns following his head injury, Ange added: “Rodrigo is all good, he’s passed all the protocols we need to, and more importantly he feels really good and the medical team are really comfortable with him being available for Sunday.”
