Dove hunting opens Sunday, Sept. 1, in Illinois.
As usual, here are the prospects and field conditions for select public sites, in prospective order, going into opening day. Most of these I checked late last week.
Matthiessen SP: Good sunflowers all four fields, some weeds.
Jim Edgar-Panther Creek SFWA: Usual sunflowers, wheat, corn. Hunting odd fields, odd days, even fields even days. Registration 8-10 a.m., p-balls for draw, which is at 10.
Shabbona Lake SRA: Good sunflowers, another promising year.
Kankakee SP: Sunflowers looking good, a change from recent years.
Johnson-Sauk Trail SRA: Sunrise-11:30 a.m. first five days. Sunflowers good, some weeds.
Des Plaines SFWA: Sunflowers a little weedy.
Iroquois County SWA: Sunflowers a little weedy.
Green River SWA: Sunflowers and millet, variable.
Silver Springs SFWA: Sunflowers, six fields, weedy.
Chain O’Lakes SP: Sunflowers and millet were flooded, upper part of field better.
Marseilles SFWA: No sunflowers. Hunting Monday-Thursday only.
