While Spurs are unlikely to sign anyone else before the transfer window shuts, they have a battle opening up with a number of clubs looking to sign one of the players they’re ready to sell this month.
Giovani Lo Celso is a wanted man, it seems. The Argentine is likely to bring to an end his time at Tottenham, with a move away heavily rumoured in the final hours of the transfer window.
While a return to Spain and Real Betis would seem the most probable outcome, there is now interest closer to home, with West Ham joining the race to sign the 28-year-old, and Aston Villa still monitoring the situation.
That’s according to Daily Express reporter, Charlie Gordon, who tweeted: “Told West Ham have asked about Giovani Lo Celso this week but Real Betis are winning the race. Likely to run into [final day of transfer window]. Aston Villa still interested in case move to Spain falls apart but Betis now going all out to get it done.”
Real Betis, the club Spurs actually signed Lo Celso from way back in 2019, are the frontrunners to sign the midfielder, then.
Various reports out of Spain have commented on the situation this week. Mucho Deporte described Lo Celso as a ‘viable’ option for Betis and stated talks have already begun between the two clubs.
However, it is thought Spurs are being particularly tough in the negotiations and are not accepting the current Betis proposal (Fabrizio Romano).
There is a belief Spurs could be prepared to loan Lo Celso out instead if they cannot agree a suitable sale (Football Insider).

I don’t imagine Lo Celso actually wants to stay in England if he’s not staying at Spurs. He’s much better suited to Spanish football, and he would surely relish the opportunity to join up with his former club.
Now, the La Liga side just need to get a deal agreed with Spurs and get this over the line before the deadline.
