Chucks and pearls are officially back.
Vice President Kamala Harris is on the road following the Democratic National Convention last week — and she brought her Converse with her on the campaign bus. Disembarking the bus on Aug. 28 in Savannah, GA, the Democratic presidential candidate was seen complementing a blazer and pearls with black platform Chuck Taylors.
Harris and running mate Tim Walz are set to travel through Georgia for a two-day bus tour in the swing state. Arriving in Savannah, Harris was wearing one of her classic travel outfits which blend sophistication with comfort. She paired a dark blazer — with an American flag pin affixed to the pointed lapel — with a pair of slim black pants.
The blazer was layered on top of a simple off-white shirt, which lightened the otherwise darkly colored ensemble. Notably, she accessorized with an elegant double-stranded pearl necklace — bringing back the Chucks and pearls trend she’s sported in the past, which became popular amongst her supporters.
Harris, a noted devotee of Converse, stayed comfortable on Wednesday in a pair of platform Chuck Taylor All Star sneakers. The iconic shoe has an unmistakable design: wide white laces stand out against a black canvas upper, which also contrasts a white cap toe and rubber sole accented with a thin black line. Additionally, the shoes bear the All Star branding on the side and on the tongue.
Deviating from the signature style, the $70 All Star Lift Platform elevates the shoe with a taller than normal base — though it’s a subtle adaptation when compared to the $75 Chuck Taylor All Star Move Platform, which has a more noticeably chunky sole.
When she isn’t complementing her pantsuits with pumps, Harris is often known to go casual in Converse, usually a versatile black pair. Having worn Chucks on the campaign trail in 2020 when running with Joe Biden, and now donning them as she vies for the presidency, she remains closely associated with the historic footwear brand. She recently wore her platform black Chuck Taylors before the start of the Democratic National Convention earlier this month, pairing them with a bold blue blazer and black pants.
