A video of Philippine National Police (PNP) chief General Rommel Francisco Marbil singing with a band in Davao quickly spread and drew criticism from netizens.
In the video, Marbil is seen in high spirits shouting, “Quiboloy, lumabas ka na diyan para makauwi na kami! (Quiboloy, come out so we can go home!)”
The band then played Salamat, a 1990s hit song by the rock band The Dawn, as Marbil struggled to sing along.
As suggested in the video, it was taken recently in Davao City where Marbil flew to oversee thousands of police personnel carrying out an exhausting manhunt for fugitive preacher Apollo Quiboloy.
The video quickly sparked a backlash as the manhunt for Quiboloy and four others, wanted on child abuse and trafficking charges, entered its seventh day.
Many netizens questioned the propriety of Marbil’s behavior, given the days of tension and exhausting search for Quiboloy and his associates within the 30-hectare compound of the religious group.
“Not a good example,” commented Van Alcober on the Facebook page of Davao-based broadcaster DXDC-RMN, which posted the video.
Another netizen added, “Need some more practice, sir.”
DXDC reported that the affair took place at the PNP regional office in Davao. – Rappler.com
