“They were plotting to kill a huge number — tens of thousands of people at this concert, including I am sure many Americans — and were quite advanced in this,” CIA Deputy Director David Cohen shared, via ABC News. “The Austrians were able to make those arrests because the agency and our partners in the intelligence community provided them information about what this ISIS-connected group was planning to do.”
According to Austrian officials, the 19-year-old main suspect was planning to attack outside of the stadium where Taylor‘s concerts were to be held, using knives or homemade explosives. Investigators had found chemical substances and technical devices during a raid of his home.
The main suspect and a second, 17-year-old suspect were taken into custody on August 6th, the day before the concert promoter announced the cancelations. Then, on August 8th, a third suspect was arrested.
Following her next set of concerts in London and the wrap of the European leg of The Eras Tour, Taylor broke her silence on the canceled Vienna shows. Read her statement here!
