A HAIR expert has revealed her hassle-free hack to growing your hair – and it will actually save you time.
Jill Loney is the owner of Jilly & Friends hair salon in Barrhead, near Glasgow, and specialises in hair extensions.
And she’s shared her top tip if you’re trying to grow out your hair – don’t wash it.
Speaking to Hype Club Podcast, she said: “There is a reason your hair gets greasy. It’s actually not grease, it’s oil.
“Your follicles are meant to replenish. That’s the whole point.
“It’s like your skin. How bad do you feel when your skin’s really dry and it’s flaky and it feels tight?
“It’s awful. Then we smash loads of moisturiser on it.
“Well, lucky enough that your head actually produces all these nutrients to let your hair replenish.”
Jilly said her customers who get fitted with a mesh struggle to wash their hair underneath, so the grease naturally builds up.
“So for all these weeks, all these nutrients are coming in and it’s replenishing”, she explained.
“And actually, we see the same thing with hair extensions. A lot of girls get extensions in and they cannot be a***d washing their hair because they’ve now got all this hair.
“So a lot of them just do slick backs or they put a wee bit of dry shampoo in, and because the extensions themselves look so good, they go ‘don’t actually need to wash this, this looks class’.
“You go from a girl that’s never wore a mesh or extensions who washes their hair three times a week to once a week.”
And hair guru Jilly insists that “nine times out of 10” clients find their natural hair is in much better condition and has grown once they have the mesh or extensions removed because it’s “had time to breathe”.
Elsewhere, a haircare whizz has revealed how she makes her tresses look “shinier than Cinderella’s shoes”.
Hair-fluencer Calista has enviably shiny locks after getting on board with the glass hair trend – and it’s all thanks to her blow dry ritual that takes minutes after the shower.
Calista dedicates her TikTok profile to educating others on haircare and methods they can try to improve their tresses.
That includes her glass hair routine, which she shared an in-depth tutorial on.
She said: “Instead of blow drying at high heat, we start off with hair oil and blow dry at medium heat.”
Calista warms the hair oil between her palms (you can use any) before applying it to the lengths and ends of her locks.
When her hair is “80% dry”, she works more oil through the ends and then blow dries it on a low heat.
“And there you have it,” she adds.
“Glass hair that is shinier than Cinderella’s shoes.”
Glass hair is when hair looks sleek and polished without a frizzy strand in sight.
The trend has gained popularity for its high-shine, smooth and almost reflective finish that’s reminiscent of glass – hence the name.
It has rocketed in recent years thanks to social media, and was mainly popularised by celebrities and influencers.
Hair experts at Philip Kingsley shared the four stages of the hair growtn cycle are: Anagen, Catagen, Telogen and Exogen
Anagen Phase: Also known as the ‘Growth Phase’ or ‘Active Phase’, is when the cells in the root of your hair are most rapidly dividing so more new hair is formed.
During the Anagen Phase, hair grows around half an inch a month [about six inches a year], and faster in the summer than in winter.
This phase of the hair growth cycle lasts an average of three to five years.
Catagen Phase: Following the Anagen Phase, your hair cycle enters a short transitional phase known as the Catagen Phase, which signals the end of active hair growth and cuts individual hairs off from the blood supply and from the cells that produce new hair.
Approximately three percent of all hairs are in this stage at any time and it lasts for around 10 days.
Telogen Phase: The third stage of your natural hair growth cycle is the Telogen Phase, a resting period when strands remain in their follicles but are not actively growing.
An estimate of 10-15 percent of your hairs are in the Telogen Phase at any given moment.
The Telogen Phase lasts around three months or 100 days.
Exogen Phase: The final stage of the Hair Growth Cycle, when individual hair strands are released from their follicles and fall out.
Now the whole process begins again.
