When she needed a dress for an important occasion, 18-year-old Grier Henchy went digging in her mom’s closet. When your mom is the iconic Brooke Shields, how could you not?! She ended up tailoring the gown Shields wore to her 1997 wedding to Andre Agassi to fit her personality, and she looked absolutely beautiful in the “full circle moment.”
“Her graduation dress was my first wedding dress,” the Pretty Baby star told PEOPLE recently. Grier explained that they “had to re-bone” the dress to make it “tight and sleek.” “We took out all the poof because I didn’t want it poofy,” she explained. They also made it strapless.
“She looked great in it,” Shields said. “It’s such an honor when they want to wear your stuff. Normally they don’t think I’m cool.”
The ivory gown looked gorgeous on Grier. Shields shared photos from the big day on Instagram in June, writing in the caption, “My youngest baby graduated from high school this week. I am so endlessly proud of her & the woman she’s becoming. The future looks so bright for you, Grier.” She added, “Next stop, college and then the world. I LOVE YOU SO SO MUCH IT HURTS ???? @grierhhenchy”
Grier paired the hand-me-down dress with a sparkly necklace and matching ivory watch and heels. Her long reddish-brown hair was worn straight down, and she carried white roses as she walked to the ceremony with her mom by her side, complementing her in a black dress and heels.
The Mother of the Bride star, who shares Grier and Rowan, 21, with her second husband Chris Henchy, said that she enjoys seeing her daughters wear clothes from her collection. “Honestly, they can wear anything because just to have it have another life – you save the stuff and wonder why,” she told PEOPLE. “It’s like, some big Sotheby’s auction? I highly doubt it. Unless they’re iconic items. So when they have another life, it feels good.”
And Grier’s graduation dress just felt extra special. “He’s a good guy so to me it was really like a big full circle moment,” Shields said. “And it honors something and I think that’s healthy.”
Grier and Rowan often channel their mother’s style. Rowan wore her mom’s 1998 red Golden Globes gown to her prom in 2021, Grier wore her mom’s 2001 Badgely Mischka dress in 2023, and both girls have twinned with their mom in coordinating colors.
