Hogan says his job in Senate would be to push back against his party like Manchin, Sinema

Former Maryland Gov. Larry Hogan (R), who's running for his state's Senate seat, said Thursday that if elected he would not always go along with his party, comparing himself to ex-Democratic Sens. Joe Manchin (I-W.Va.) and Kyrsten Sinema (I-Ariz.).

CNBC’s Becky Quick asked Hogan if he saw himself “playing that same sort of a role, where you push back pretty hard against” the party if elected.

“No question about that,” Hogan said on “Squawk Box.” “I mean, I believe I will be exactly in that kind of a role.”

According to a forecast from The Hill/Decision Desk HQ, Hogan’s Democratic opponent, Prince George’s County Executive Angela Alsobrooks, has a greater than 99 percent chance when it comes to victory in the upcoming election.

“Unfortunately, some really good people are leaving the Senate because they’re so fed up with this divisive, angry politics and the broken political system,” Hogan said in his CNBC interview.

Hogan has also historically been a critic of former President Trump and has previously distanced himself from the former president’s endorsement of him.

“Well, I just said I didn’t … I didn’t seek it, I didn’t wanna have it, and I have no interest in it. It’s not something we’re gonna be promoting, that’s for sure,” Hogan said when previously asked if he rejects the endorsement.

Hogan and Alsobrooks’s race is one of many closely watched Senate races this year, which includes showdowns in states like Arizona, Wisconsin, Pennsylvania, Montana and Ohio.
