Peel Regional Council approves Brampton Plan to manage City’s growth

Peel Regional Council recently approved the Brampton Plan, the City’s official plan for land use and growth management.

The plan outlines ways to implement goals from the Brampton 2040 Vision to achieve a sustainable and urban future for the city while also guiding Brampton’s growth to 2051.

The plan allows for flexibility in how population and housing targets set by the provincial government are achieved while remaining in alignment with priorities that both residents and community partners have identified.

The approval of Brampton Plan is the result of over four years of background work, technical studies and public consultation.

Key highlights of the plan include innovative urban design, economic development, sustainable practices, cultural enrichment and inclusive communities.

Over the last few years, the City of Brampton has expanded rapidly. Over the next three decades, Brampton is projected to continue growing, and transitioning to a major urban centre and home to more than one million residents. In order to accommodate this growth, the plan sets a roadmap that guides and manages development within the city. It also reflects the needs and goals of residents and implements the principles outlined in the 2040 Vision.

“The approval of Brampton Plan marks a significant milestone for our city. With Brampton projected to become a major urban centre in the coming decades, this plan provides a strategic blueprint to manage our growth responsibly,” said Mayor Patrick Brown. “It reflects our commitment to sustainable development, economic vitality and community well-being.”
